Major Felony Public Defender Contract
Position is available for one attorney: Public Defender contracts are annual contracts with Morgan County Board of Judges. This handles cases from Misdemeanors- Major Felonies in the 4 Morgan County Courts. We work with trying to limit scheduling to 2 days a week. Occasional emergencies are set outside of those normal 2 days.
Responsibilities:
Conduct bench and jury trials.
Required to provide legal services to all clients, to whom the Public Defender’s Office is appointed.
Conduct client interviews, both in and out of the correctional facilities, process trials, assist in locating witnesses, draft appropriate motions and general correspondence as needed.
Be familiar with the pretrial matrix release
Be able to navigate Zoom efficiently
Be able to schedule and plan accordingly with other Public Defender’s if coverage is needed.
Pay: $55,000 annual contract paid in monthly installments of $4,583.00
Requirements:
Law degree (J.D.) from an accredited law school
Must be admitted to practice law in the State of Indiana
Felony Caseload Position
Criminal Law Experience preferred, but not mandatory
