Recycling Attendant Part-time

Remote - Martinsville, IN

Incumbent serves as Part-time Assistant Recycling Technician for Morgan County Recycling, responsible for assisting public and staff with operations, and maintaining facilities and grounds.  

DUTIES:

Directs and assists incoming traffic to correct areas and inspects loads for non-recyclable items.

Returns non-recycling items to customer explaining requirements, processes, and procedures.  Answers questions regarding operations and/or directs to appropriate staff.

Maintains buildings and grounds including notifying supervisor of needed repairs or inventory.

Performs related duties as assigned.

I.   SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

Working knowledge of and ability to make practical application of Department safety policies and procedures, including OHSA guidelines.

Ability to physically perform assigned duties, including sitting/standing for long periods, lifting/carrying objects weighing under 50 pounds, pushing/pulling objects, bending, crouching/kneeling, reaching, standing/walking for long periods, walking on rough terrain, close/far vision, hearing sounds/communication, and handling/grasping/fingering objects.

Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, other County departments and the public, including being sensitive to professional ethics, gender, cultural diversities and disabilities.

Shall comply with all employer and Department policies and work rules, including, but not limited to, attendance, safety, drug-free workplace, and personal conduct.

Ability to provide public access to or maintain confidentiality of Department information and records according to state requirements.

Ability to understand, memorize, retain, and carry out oral and written instructions.

Ability to work alone with minimum supervision and with others in a team environment.

Ability to regularly work weekends and occasionally work extended hours and evenings.

II.   RESPONSIBILITY:

Incumbent performs specific assigned duties with work priorities primarily determined by supervisor and service needs of the public.  Incumbent follows standard operating procedures.  Incumbent must have supervisor’s permission to deviate from standard operating procedures.  Incumbent has some flexibility in the job.  Incumbent's work is reviewed through random checks at critical phases and upon completion of specific duties.  Errors in work are primarily detected through notification from the public/customers.  Undetected errors could result in loss of time to correct error, or loss of money to department.

Incumbent reports directly to Recycling Director.

III.   PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Incumbent’s duties involve sitting/standing for long periods, lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling objects weighing under 50 pounds, handling/grasping/fingering objects, crouching/kneeling, reaching, close/far vision, depth perception, hearing sounds/communication, and speaking clearly.  Strain is not prolonged, and effort is exerted for short periods of time.

IV.   WORKING CONDITIONS:

Incumbent performs a majority of duties outdoors and in noisy environments, including extreme temperatures, fumes/odors/dust/dirt, and confined areas.  Safety precautions must be followed at all times to avoid injury to self and others, including wearing protective clothing.

Incumbent regularly works weekends and occasionally works extended hours and evenings.
